Covid: A New Normal

A friend of Sub Rosa’s, Dr Evelin Dacker, recently posted this article on opening up social circles in the days to come. We encourage you to read it to help you understand your risks, and those of your social circle to stay safe as things reopen.

We are in the process of creating processes to keep ourselves and our renters safe.

We are watching the news to stay informed as to what the best practices are in businesses like ours. Currently we are available to regular vetted renters who are quarantined together. We are asking that people arrive in masks to greet us, and refrain from using the public toys for now. If there are toys you usually borrow from us, let us know and we can have them out for you.

We are taking care to wipe surfaces down with Clorox wipes – especially those heavy touch areas like door knobs, sink knobs, toilet handles. We are asking you to do the same at the end of your play time. Of course we clean all surfaces after you leave as well, but we don’t know what you’ve been up to during your stay so taking care to clean up after yourselves will at worst, leave some places doubly cleaned, which isn’t a bad thing in the time of Covid.

Classes and other social gatherings like 50 Shades of STFU and Quink will continue, but online. We are just starting to add classes to the roster, so check back often!

We will be using our blog, as well as our newsletter to keep you up to date on our current policies. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Interview with Marla Renee Stewart aka Miss Marla

Marla Renee Stewart | Miss Marla

How long have you been involved in (the particular kink/fetish you will be teaching about and how did you get involved?

I have been involved in the kink lifestyle for over 20 years. I first got involved because as a go-go dancer in San Francisco, I found the fetish attire beautiful and then someone educated me on what it all meant. From there, I was all in and ready to get involved into doing more! I think it definitely helped to be in San Francisco at the time. Currently, I’m a part of a kink/leather organization, ONYX Pearls Southeast that mentors and educates young women of color into being involved in the kink community.

What advice would you give your younger self when you started exploring this type of play?

The advice I would give my younger self would be to be open on all the different types of fetishes. As a young person, I was definitely conservative in my thoughts in what I deemed “appropriate,” but as I’ve aged, I now know that limiting myself definitely puts a damper on how certain things could improve my life. Spanking, slapping, and choking is sexy and now I’m here to really prove it!

How has your play evolved?

I tend to attract vanilla partners, so my play has evolved in aspects of intimacy and how to be intimate with others when it comes to kink. The ways in which I can ultimately have genuine care and concern for someone have helped me grow in the ways that I see kink in my life and I’m happy that I have a partner that is able to understand that aspect of me and respect it, accordingly.

What do you love about sharing your kink or fetish with others?

I love seeing the light bulbs go off in my student’s heads! When that happens, I see that they have real joy in knowing that they can also evolve with their sexuality. When I see someone who says that ordinarily they wouldn’t like it, but they love the way that I perform it on them, that totally makes my day and reassures me that this is what I was put on this earth to do.
