A lot of people reach out to us about how they can better support or get involved with what we are doing at Sub Rosa. So if you’ve reached this page: thank you for asking! We could not do what we do without you. Running a space like this is a constantly shifting landscape and it is always challenging, but our guests and supporters make it all worth it. There are several ways you can help sustain Sub Rosa.
First and foremost – rent our space! We’ve built the space from the start as a place to be shared and rented. We’ve put a huge amount of intention into making it one of the most equipped, relaxing, and luxe red rooms you’ll find. Supporting our small business by paying for our services is foundational. Schedule a private date with your partner(s), host an intimate party for friends and lovers, or send a gift certificate to someone you know would love our space. Learn more here.
If you can give additional financial support, we also have a Patreon that helps us cover the cost of our community efforts as well as upgrades to Sub Rosa. Whether $5 a month or more, your recurring support on Patreon helps us in our mission (plus most levels come with perks). Learn more here.
To volunteer in person with Sub Rosa, we will need to get to know you a bit first. This is for your safety and ours. The best way to do this is to attend our classes and events, come to the socials, book a session with Natasha or Viola, and start to build a connection with us and the Sub Rosa community. All volunteers must follow our community guidelines and be a member of our Discord. This is where we do all of our communication around support and volunteering, it is really a helpful platform for coordinating our events and classes.
Folks need to understand, we are a small business, not a community-run organization. We do not have board members, access levels, or any internal program that grants you more access to the dommes or their attention. We work with the folks who have gained our trust based on our personal experience and our personal risk assessments. We have to know folks in order for them to gain access to volunteer positions and support roles.
Below are our main volunteer roles, and how one might step into these positions (and the benefits of each).
Class Support
Role description: We always have two places for folks who would like to help us run classes. This includes welcoming folks as they arrive, answering questions about our community and the space, and helping with setup and cleanup.
Responsibilities: Classes generally run from 7-9pm on weekdays. Class helpers arrive 30 minutes before class to help set up the folding chairs and snacks, and they generally stay at least 30 minutes after to reset the space and put the chairs away. Chairs are on rolling storage and need to be brought up from the basement using the freight elevator. This can take some physical maneuvering.
What is takes to qualify and apply: We need to know that you are familiar with our space and our community, so these spots go to people who we know fairly well, and have attended at least three classes with us.
To thank you: We give you free entry to class, usually a $50 value. And early access to snacks! This does not include a plus one.
FemDom Boot Camp Support Domme
Role description: We always have two Support Dommes at our FemDom Boot Camps. Support Dommes help guide and encourage our class participants, and assist as needed throughout the night, as well as with setup and cleanup.
Responsibilities: Plan for a long night! Our Boot Camps run from 7-10pm, generally on first Thursdays. Support Dommes show up 45 minutes before and stay after to help clean up, and may be asked to help with the chairs. Chairs are on rolling storage and need to be brought up from the basement using the freight elevator. This can take some physical maneuvering. During the coached play party portion of the class, Support Dommes watch over the activities and provide guidance and encouragement (Dungeon Monitor (DM) experience is always helpful but not required).
What is takes to qualify and apply: We need to know that you are familiar with our space and our community, and that you are an experienced domme or Dungeon Monitor. These spots go to people who have attended classes with us (especially past bootcamps because then you know the drill), have had coaching with Natasha or Viola, DM’d or volunteered for Viola at STFU, and/or have otherwise demonstrated a firm understanding of femdom, consent, safety, negotiations, etc.
To thank you: We give you free entry to the boot camp ($80 value), early access to snacks, and ONE hour of free rental credit ($100 value).
FemDom Boot Camp Demo Bottom
Role description: We always have six or seven Demo Bottoms at our FemDom Boot Camps. Natasha and Viola model negotiation with the Demo Bottoms in front of the class. During the coached play party, we set up a station for the Demo Bottom to demonstrate pre-negotiated activities for the class participants, under the oversight of Natasha, Viola, and the Support Dommes. We make it clear to all attendees that D/s is not assumed, that the demo bottoms are bottoms not submissive (and we clarify this distinction). If the bottom is there to demo D/s dynamics, we clarify what and how. Nothing happens that is not negotiated or directly consented to. But the demo bottoms should be aware that the folks in the class are new and learning, and things can happen in a group play environment. This is a unique opportunity to engage in play while helping dominants develop their abilities.
Responsibilities: Plan for a long night! Our Boot Camps run from 7-10pm, generally on first Thursdays. Show up 45 minutes early to fill out your consent form, and help set up your station and stay a bit after to help clean your station. While we do understand that these positions can a bit scary, we do ask that you refrain from relaxing beforehand with a drink, edible, or quick smoke. We need you clear headed to help manage yourself in a hectic kinky environment. Demonstrated clear communication and a strong ability to express your consent, boundaries, limits, and desires is critical.
What is takes to qualify and apply: These are highly sought-after spots and go to folks we trust and enjoy working with. With limited spots available and such high demand, we cannot say yes to everyone who asks to be a Demo Bottom, even if we know and like you. That said, we need to know that a Demo Bottom is familiar with our space and our community, and an experienced and communicative bottom. We need to trust that you understand that this is a learning environment and that while there will be lots of play — you’re there for learning and practice. We assign you a station that we know you will enjoy and you must clearly communicate what activities you feel comfortable engaging in and educating people about. These spots go to someone who we know very well, so we can understand your ability to communicate, show up on time, and that we can trust you with our students. Generally, this can happen through private coaching or play sessions (at least 3) with Viola or Natasha. Or, it can happen after coming to at least two Bootcamps and asking Viola and Natasha to observe you during a third Bootcamp, then having a conversation with them about being a Demo Bottom. Ultimately, it is a judgment call for Viola and Natasha to make. We do have a higher need for Demo Bottoms who are not cis men.
To thank you: Generally, demo bottoms support the event by paying $50-$100. Occasionally we provide free entry to folks who are trusted and/or have done other work for the space. If you are accepted as a Demo Bottom you will have been shown that we enjoy and trust you. Also, snacks!
Keyholder
Role description: We have several trusted Keyholders who help us check in and clean up after our rental guests. Keyholders are trained in the check in and clean up procedures, and are trusted with our scheduling calendar and eventually their own key code for entry into our space.
Responsibilities: Keyholders monitor the calendar for new reservations, and are added to a Discord channel to respond to requests for check-ins and cleanups on there. When you volunteer to take on a check-in or cleanup, you must follow through and show up on time to ensure the playspace is ready for guests, and then check them in on time, with an orientation to the physical space and our policies. During cleanups, the Keyholder ensures the space is clean and sanitary, and all set up for the next person to use it. There is more flexibility with timing for cleanups, but it must be done before the next use of the space. Each check-in takes around 20 minutes and cleanup takes around 30 minutes, but may vary.
What is takes to qualify and apply: When working as a Keyholder, you are representing Sub Rosa and we need to know that you are familiar with our space and our policies, that you are a good communicator and can show up on time, and that we can trust you with our space and our guests. These spots go to trusted folks we know well, people who have attended our classes and events, and who have used or rented our space enough to be able to show it off to new renters.
To thank you: We give you $15 in rental credit for each check-in and $25 in rental credit for each cleanup, and access to the calendar for scheduling benefits.
Handy Helper
Role description: From time to time we need help with maintenance or upgrades in Sub Rosa or Mother’s Den. Handy Helpers support us with physical tasks as needed.
Responsibilities: We make requests for help of this kind on our Discord server. If you respond to a project that you are able to take on, we will communicate with you to schedule a time to enter the space and do the work. We cover all expenses but often need skills that we do not possess.
What is takes to qualify and apply: To be a Handy Helper, you have to be on our Discord and following community guidelines. We need to be able to trust you in our space so ideally you have attended classes and events, and are familiar with us and the community.
To thank you: We offer our gratitude for this act of service! This support should be offered without an expectation of reward beyond helping your local FemDom dungeon. Depending on the work involved, we do offer tickets to classes or rental credit in exchange for construction help.
Greeter at the Sub Rosa Social
Role description: Every month we host a social at Wayfinder Brewery. We love having people there who are familiar with our space and our community to welcome people as they arrive. Often people are nervous and don’t know anyone, so having a few friendly faces to greet them, answer questions, help them with name tags is always welcome.
Responsibilities: The event runs from 6-9pm. Greeters arrive 15 minutes before and stay until at least 8:30. Can’t make the entire event – no problem. Just let us know what block of time works for you and we can make sure someone else is there to help cover. This is a great way to meet people in the community!
What is takes to qualify and apply: We need to know you fairly well for this position since greeters are operating as community representatives. You’ll also need to be familiar with our space and what we do. So being around for a bit and having attended classes is ideal so you have familiarity with our physical space.
To thank you: We will make sure you meet plenty of friendly people, and will buy you a drink!
